We run talks, walks and other events for members and guests
Past activities
Animals vs. humans?
We like to make ur AGMs fun! At our most recent, ecologist Ian Temby gave a talk on the issues that arise when animals - exotic and native - and humans occupy the same space. It was a fascinating presentation, followed by an interesting discussion featuring the diverse perspectives of members and guests. (August 2019)
Rabbit warren smoker demonstration
Gather round people, this rabbit business is serious! We ran a how-to-use demonstration of our rabbit-warren smoker on one of our member’s properties to help land-owners understand how to assess the warren structure and support eradication of this cute but invasive pest. Members can now hire the smoker for a very reasonable daily rate. (July 2019)
All the bees!
Trentham Landcare hosted a well-attended talk by David and Sara Gormley-O’Brien on beekeeping and pollinators (not just the European honeybee!). David is the president of the Macedon Ranges Sustainability Group, an industrious and passionate group who do all sorts of great projects across a range of sustainability issues. (May 2019)

We need to talk about rabbits!
Trentham Landcare members participated in a rabbit eradication demonstration, workshop and conversation with Brad Blake, an expert in invasive fauna control. Brad took participants through the options and complexities around rabbit. Brad Blake has been a great asset to the region, as Upper Campaspe Landcare’s Threatened Species Officer during the Spotlight on Species Program. Trentham Landcare member Rohan Meggs kindly offered his property and underground rabbit castle as our demo space. (March 2019)
Bird walks in the Wombat Forest
Trentham Landcare Group has been very fortunate to have Tanya Loos (communications coordinator for Birdlife Australia) conduct bird walks for us in the past – one in the Wombat State Forest near Trentham (January 2017) and one in the Wombat State Forest near the Garden of St Erth (October 2018). Bird sightings on the first walk included Yellow-tailed Black-Cockatoo, Gang Gang Cockatoo, Grey Fantail, Grey Shrike-thrush, White-browed Scrubwren, Superb Fairy-wren, White-throated Treecreeper and Spotted Pardalote.

On Dja Dja Wurrung Country
Along with Wombat Forestcare and Trentham Historical Society, Trentham Landcare participated in a workshop and walk from Trentham Falls with Dja Dja Wurrung elder Ricky Nelson who addressed the history and geology of the area through indigenous eyes, noting that Trentham had been a significant meeting place for several indigenous communities.
