Stewardship of the Basalt Peppercress
From 2021 Trentham District Landcare and Friends of Trentham Creeks and Reserves will jointly lead the management and monitoring of the Basalt Peppercress (Lepidium hyssopifolium) population at Trentham Primary School.
Back in 2018 the Upper Campaspe Landcare Network (UCLN) instigated a project that saw 32 Basalt Peppercress seedlings planted by students at Trentham District Primary School. This was facilitated by a partnership with the Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning and Friends of Trentham Creeks and Reserves.
Since then Trentham District Landcare member and fledgling ecologist Nat Cursio has been tending to the plants and is part of a working group, led by Macedon Ranges Shire Council, which brings together land managers across Victoria to share experiences and report progress of Basalt Peppercress populations around the state.
